Touching Lives - Expanding Awareness

This is an exciting time for you as you consider the next step in your life journey. We have entered a new era in healthcare - an unprecedented time of convergence between complementary and "traditional" Western healthcare. As the cost of medicine continually increases, many people are seeking responsibility for their own healthcare. Choices in alternative health have made an impact on the American public, allopathic medicine, insurance companies, and education of a variety of health professional fields. People of all ages and lifestyles are actively including professional bodywork in their personal health and wellness plan.

As a part of this trend toward alternative healthcare, students are seeking the benefits of attending massage school. They want to be their own boss, work with other health professionals, or use their career as a part-time addition to current work. At TEMS, which is a North Carolina board-approved school, students are constantly reminded of their own self-care and personal growth, as well as learning how to help their clients help themselves. Attending massage school is much more than learning lessons. It helps create confidence, build character, and develop a healthy physical and emotional attitude toward life. We will work with you every step of the way to make your experience at the school meaningful and to support you in the life changes that will happen as a result of your career choice.

TEMS offers the most comprehensive and experiential program to those planning to join the momentous growth of the profession. Our program offers a powerful combination of educational excellence and balance - balance between classic Western massage, bodywork in the Eastern tradition, clinical massage specialization, and bodywork focusing on the integration of mind, body, and spirit.

We encourage you to fully explore your options in massage therapy education. We are confident that you will find our program to be unparalleled - an educational experience with potential for a rewarding vocation and profound growth opportunities that will last a lifetime.

Class Size

Theory classes have a maximum of 16 students. Student teacher ratio during hands on classes is at most 8 to 1. This provides the student with a highly individualized learning environment. Classes are kept small so that we may support and enhance your development while cultivating your unique abilities.

Ideal Learning Setting

The facility is located on the second floor of a successful massage therapy center. Students will learn the art and science of massage therapy within a professionally operating massage business. Daily exposure to the environment of practicing massage therapists greatly enhances and complements the students program.

Marketable Skills

There is a growing need for both professional stress reduction therapy and clinical soft tissue therapy. Clients must perceive massage to be of therapeutic value. At TEMS, you have the potential to become certified in both Swedish massage and Neuromuscular Therapy. This provides graduates with a solid foundation in advanced therapeutic, clinical massage techniques as well as the basic relaxation techniques.

Skills in Marketing

If your work is good, clients will come. Don't be fooled by this concept! All too often practitioners enter into the healing arts field believing that their businesses will grow with satisfied customers and word of mouth alone. This fallacy causes practitioners to struggle at making a living or even surrender their dreams and abandon their profession. Plainly stated, having the technical skills to be an excellent practitioner does not guarantee business success. It takes very different skills and planning to cultivate a profitable practice. You can gain these skills through our program, which are touched upon daily in class and in our specific professional development courses.

Philosophy and Goals

Open to a holistic philosophy, TEMS provides a variety of traditional and alternative subjects with a primary emphasis on Swedish and Neuromuscular and a secondary emphasis on Acupressure. These skills give the student a firm foundation to start a real, viable massage business. Our goal is to provide the highest quality education to individuals enrolled in our program. TEMS wants to promote the field of Massage Therapy & Bodywork by graduating individuals who have succeeded in fulfilling the program requirements. Therefore, TEMS encourages each student to investigate personal growth physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually in a small, friendly, supportive environment.

Continuing Education

TEMS offers opportunities for continually developing and improving therapeutic massage and bodywork skills. Special guest workshops, certification programs, and other continuing education options are open to graduates and professional Massage Therapists. Invitations and notices are mailed three to four times a year; anyone can call the school to be placed on the newsletter mailing list.

Faculty Profiles

TEMS offers experienced teachers in the wide variety of subjects presented in our core program. Faculty encourages each student to succeed through individual attention and support. They continually create supportive, imaginative teaching methods for greater student benefit. Faculty is able to give meaningful, precise feedback to help students make improvements in hands-on work. They are committed to ongoing training though their frequent participation in a wide variety of continuing education programs. Most of all, these talented teachers are able to inspire students to follow their passion.
